Francisco Díaz Fernández was born in Lucena in 1859 and died in the same city in 1898 He was one of Silverio Franconetti´s favourite guitarists and, along with José Patiño, one of the first flamenco soloists in history He developed a form of playing based on the so called «a cuerda pelá» style, supported on the thumb It is said that he started the style, as he was Rafael Marín´s teacher on one side and Niño de Morón´s on the other
