Palenciana
The village of Palenciana is situated in the south of the province, near the border with the province of Málaga, amidst fields of cereal crops and olives.
Palenciana, which became independent from Benamejí in 1834, displays all the typical characteristics of the Cordoba countryside"s agricultural villages, with its whitewashed buildings and relaxed way of life, and its only building of note is La Virgen del Carmen Church.
History
Founded in modern times, the village"s first inhabitants appear to have settled in what is now Paleciana in the mid 17th century. The village"s name appears for the first time 1665 in the archives of Benameji from which it separated temporarily in 1812 and definitively in 1834.Palenciana was originally a name given to a country estate or farm in the mid 16th century, on the site of which the present-day village was later founded.
