The Parish Church of Santa Cruz is located in the Calle Mateos Gago in the popular neighbourhood of Santa Cruz.

The primitive church stood in a square that currently has the same name, right in the heart of the neighbourhood. It was built in 1391 by order of the "Cabildo" (Local Government) during the reign of Enrique III of Castile, over a synagogue which had stood there. There is a plaque in the current square that stands as a reminder that Bartolomé Esteban Murillo was buried there.

Building started in 1655 on a plot of land previously occupied by a "Corral de Comedias" (theatre) called Don Juan, located in the Calle de la Borceguinería (currently Calle Mateos Gago).

The Parish Church of Santa Cruz has a Latin cross floor plan and three naves, the central one being higher and broader than the lateral naves, communicated through semi-circular arches over two galleries.

The whole church is painted white and there are no plaster adornments or mural paintings of any kind.

In this church you will find images of the crucifixion of La Misericordia attributed to the workshop of Pedro Roldán and dating to the last third of the 17th century and  of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, by Antonio Eslava Rubio in 1967, patron saints of the Hermandad de Santa Cruz brotherhood that celebrates its procession on the evening-night of Easter Tuesday.

Monday - Friday from 9.30am to 1pm and 7pm to 9pm Saturdays from 10.30am to 1pm and 7pm to 9pm Sundays and public holidays from 9.30am to 2pm and 7pm to 9pm
