Royal Monastery of Santa Clara is the oldest institution in Úbeda, in the province of Jaén.

It was founded by the Franciscan sisters in the 13th century. It is a convent consisting of two cloisters, the convent itself and a delightful church which can be visited during times of worship.

It is famous because Queen Isabel la Católica spent the night there in 1489, on her way to the siege of Baza (Granada). From this illustrious visit the cell where the queen spent the night has been preserved together with a number of personal effects that were a gift to the community to thank them for their hospitality.

The "Torno de Monjas" (shop where you do not see the face of the nun who serves you) will be open and here you can purchase traditional homemade sweets and desserts.
