Easter week in Úbeda is one of the most popular in Andalusia. It was declared to be of Tourist Interest (in 1980) and of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia (in 1997). The features that characterise Easter Week in Ubeda are, amongst others, respect and the chronological order of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ that the brotherhoods maintain in stations of penitence, with one exception; the General Procession on the night of Good Friday; the "La Humildad" band of Romans, considered to be the most spectacular in Spain; the ascent of the Virgen de la Soledad (Virgin of the bricklayers) up the "Cuesta de la Merced", and typical sweets like the "Hornazo" the "Puritos Americanos" are just some of the most characteristic distinguishing features.
With its own private and different personality, Easter Week in Úbeda takes on extraordinary grandeur and emotion. The processions of the twenty brotherhoods that take part, some of which date back to the 16th and 17th centuries, show incomparable solemnity and brilliance. In such a way that the whole body also participates in the thousand sensations of Easter Week, which also medieval and Renaissance Úbeda as a backdrop, making the city a beautiful setting for such a beautiful artistic representation.
