Cabra is by right and tradition an Easter city all year round. This event, one of the most unique in the town, has its roots in the last years of the 15th century. Characterised by the large number of processions passing through its streets every day, Easter in Cabra has 28 Brotherhoods of Passion, making it one of the most important not only in the province of Cordoba but in Andalusia. In 1989, it was declared to be of National Tourist Interest.
The endless list of peculiarities that enrich the celebration keep all of its symbolism alive, and it finds its maximum expression in the representation of the Jews and Christians; in the sound of the drums and trumpets; in such emblematic figures as the 'añafiles' or 'abejorros', announcing the approach of Jesus or Mary with the peculiar sound of their elongated trumpets; and the sound of the “rompevelos” which you can hear during the early hours of Good Friday. Two characteristics to highlight are the artistic mark left by the best religious image makers of the 17th and 18th centuries on local carvings, and the Cabra saeta, which is unique.
