Hiking routes you can try with your dog in Andalusia

Naturaleza Rutas Senderistas con perro (6).jpg

Enjoy nature with your dog. Discover new walks and landscapes. Stroll through forests home to protected species. Animal lovers and hikers know what they're talking about: heading out into the mountains, accompanied by your dog, is one of life's greatest pleasures. In Andalusia, you can give free reign to this hobby because there are many routes to choose from.

Some routes in the region are protected and others usually have access restricted to animals. For this reason, we recommend always checking in advance before heading out on an excursion. The routes we suggest here are suitable for dogs. Discover them and prepare to enjoy some of the most spectacular trails in the region.

La Carraca Trail (La Lantejuela, Seville)

A perfect route you can enjoy with your dog given its low difficulty. This trail amounts to almost 8, rather linear, kilometres. An area of cereal countryside, during the walk you can enjoy the presence of species native to these lands, such as the flamingo, the black-crowned night heron and the red-crested pochard.

Garganta Río de la Hoz Route (Rute, Cordoba)

The Garganta del Río la Hoz is also known as "Salsipuedes" (Leave if you can), due to the canyons and formations in its limestone. In this spectacular landscape of unique beauty you can see small waterfalls and many larger ones following the course of the river. This circular route does not have fully a signposted path, although it is partially indicated, which enables you to follow it without many problems.

Río Borosa Hiking Route (Santo Tomé, Jaén)

In the heart of Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas, this hiking route is one of the most popular in this natural park, meaning it can be rather busy during holiday periods. The area formed by the fast waters of the Borosa, the rocks that enclose the river and the closed riverbank vegetation create one of the most spectacular river scenes in southern Spain. The Río Borosa Route is full of interesting places and spaces. If you are taking your pet with you, remember to stop at certain points as some sections of the trail are quite difficult.

Río Alías Trail (Carboneras, Almeria)

The Alías River is the most important watercourse in Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, and the only one to be called a river as its waters are almost permanent. The hiking route, of low difficulty, follows one of the most interesting sections of the river, with areas in which it widens, as is frequently the case with watercourses, and others in which it narrows to form a gorge. The unusual vegetation and many shelters that surround the rocks are home to abundant animal life.

El Tesorillo Trail (Grazalema, Cadiz)

El Tesorillo Trail takes you to beautiful, secluded places where you can enjoy contact with nature. You will walk along a path that was once used by mountain inhabitants. Among them, coal merchants knew how to take advantage of resources in an era when coal was a necessary source of energy in all homes, but that hasn't stopped the forest from showing off its beauty today.
