Cumbre del Peguera – PR-A 191

The start panel of the Cumbre del Peguera Trail – PR-A 191 is on the forest trail that connects Fuente Pinilla (Beas de Segura) with the Poyo de los Burgos recreational area.

This forest track, which is only used in summer by the people looking after the house at the top of the route, runs through a dense forest of black pines with Mediterranean undergrowth. It is worthwhile climbing up to this point because the views you will enjoy are unforgettable.

The Peguera, also known as Bandera, is a splendid vantage point from which, like a set of endless curtains, you can make out the whole of the central area of summits and limestone rock formations of the Sierra de Segura, as well as the major mountains of the other two regions that make up the Natural Park: those of Las Villas, with craggy silhouettes, and Cazorla, a little further away.

Great pine forests cover the mountain sides, which drop down into the waters of the large Tranco reservoir.

On the opposite bank, we can see small villages, such as Hornos el Viejo, La Platera and Fuente de la Higuera.

You can also see Hornos de Segura and Segura de la Sierra, two small villages with spectacular high locations, and other villages such as Cortijos Nuevos and Orcera, as well as the extensive olive groves of the lower parts.

In short, it is a mosaic of natural and man-made elements that offers a very comprehensive view of what this region is like.
