The world of the Iberians, pre-Roman inhabitants of Spain and Portugal (Iberia), was described by the Greek geographer Strabo. One of the tribes he mentioned in Andalusia, the Oretani, inhabited the actual area of Jaén and it is there that their culture is most strongly expressed.

Fortifications, armies and great trading activity by their chieftains can be visualised when visiting these remains.

The museum at Jaén houses the unique 6th century BC series of sculptures from Porcuna. The trip begins at the 5th-4th century BC walled town of Puente Tablas near Jaén. The museum at Linares has several objects from the near by Iberian-Roman town of Cástulo, where remains of the walls can still be seen.

The Cyclopean wall of Ibros is a classic monument of Iberian culture, from which we continue to the 4th century BC sepulchral chamber of Toya at Peal de Becerro, a pre-Roman archi-tectural marvel. Near by, we may end this tour at the Roman villa of Bruñel, at Quesada, where various chambers and mosaics can still be seen.
