Arriving in Ubrique by the track of the Roman road which runs between this white village and Benaocaz, we are met by a sturdy, austere, simple building, located beside the old tanneries where leather used to be tanned in the old days. This is the Convento de Capuchinos, home of the Permanent Exhibition of "Manos y Magia en la Piel" (Hands and Magic in Leather), from the 17th century, which preserves within its walls part of the history of this town famous for its leather goods, its legends and the memories of such illustrious figures as Fray Diego José de Cádiz and Fray Buenaventura.

ThePermanent Exhibition of "Manos y Magia en la Piel" - Convento de Capuchinos is not only a stroll through the history of leather goods in Ubrique from its very beginnings, but it is also a part of the ethnographic heritage of the town, an essential part of the cultural heritage of Andalusia and Spain.

Its creation has enhanced the value of the Convent building and the recognition of the work done by the people of Ubrique with such dedication and perfection over the centuries, characteristics that have evolved right up to the present day when they have their own brand to guarantee the quality of their production.

The Convento de Capuchinos in itself is an important cultural resource whose value has risen thanks to the legacy preserved between its robust walls, making it the Ubrique Leather Museum.

ThePermanent Exhibition of "Manos y Magia en la Piel" is located in the part of the Convento de Capuchinos corresponding to the old cells of the Capuchinos, on the upper floor and in the cloister of the building. The latter houses the machines, both old and modern, essential for the manufacture of leather goods.

On the top floor just as you arrive, you pass by the former cell of Fray Diego José de Cádiz, which provides a welcome to the history of Ubrique Leather, from oldest to most modern designs.
