Gothic and Mudejar Routes

The great cavalry incursion by Saint Fernando into the valley of the Guadalquivir River led to it coming under Christian control in the mid 13th century XIII and brought one of the major movements of medieval Christian art to Andalusia: the Gothic.

However, the Gothic movement in Andalusia cannot be fully understood without the Mudejar, an expression of art in Christian Spain characterized fundamentally by its use of architectural, technical and material elements with Islamic or Hispano-Muslim roots, which added a special character to the great international artistic styles.
