An excursion around Jaén with your pet

Cultura Ocio y Diversión con tu mascota por Jaén (1).jpg

If you want to travel with your pet and discover Jaen, here is a recommended excursion of a city full of cultural and natural resources. Jaén has it all…

Will you be spending your holiday with your pet and you're looking to discover Andalusia's different cities? How do you feel about a day in Jaén? It's true that although pet tourism is not yet that common, in the city (you can reach everything on foot) there are options you can enjoy with your pet. Or with your family or other half, if you will be travelling with even more companions.

Religious architecture tour

the Province of Jaén is completely open to those who wish to discover this area. It does so with the spirit and solemnness of its capital city, which has much to say in the field of religious art. Travelling with a dog, in this case, will not involve any problems when it comes to enjoying a cultural tour where the city's most significant monuments reign supreme. This age-old city, along with its surroundings, is a pleasant surprise just waiting to be explored

  • This route includes architectural gems, like the cathedral, the country's Renaissance church par excellence that, after centuries of existence since construction began (in 1248 under the reign of Ferdinand III), still presides over the city with its majestic appearance.
  • Another very old church, Magdalena, joins this wander around the city during which you will be seduced by the Gothic charm of its Isabelline facade. San Bartolomé Church, of medieval origins, has a facade that dates back to the 17th century.
  • San Juan Church has Isabelline remnants in its tower. Next to it is the popular Torre del Concejo, the function of which was to notify the whole city when enemies were approaching.

El Aceite Rail Trail

However, the capital of olives doesn't escape nature, nor does it need to. A fantastic "not without my dog" option is to walk the symbolic El Aceite Rail Trail (Via Verde del Aceite). The same city - in the west, at Polideportivo de las Fuentezuelas - serves as a starting point for the old railway line. This trail can also be tackled by bike.

Like other rail trails, it is important that you keep your furry friend on a lead in order to avoid annoying other hikers (don't forget you'll also need: food, drink, hydration...). In addition to the postcard of olive trees and vineyards, this is a setting rich in cultural heritage with interesting places such as the medieval Alcaudete Castle, the medieval bridge over the Víboras River, and the archaeological route of Los Torreones in the Jaén countryside where you will see a parade of watchtowers, towers and fortifications from centuries ago.
