Tour through inland Malaga... Not without my dog!

Get your pet and discover some of the most surprising places in Malaga: Torcal de Antequera, spectacular Ronda, the Fuente del Esparto Trail in Frigiliana, and Chíllar River in Nerja. For dessert, relax in the legendary Carratraca Spa.

You're here to spend a few days in the company of your dog and you want to try everything: active tourism, lots of walking and of course relaxing. You'll also fancy a cold drink on a balcony overlooking the sea and, if possible, a visit to an exclusive spa where pets are permitted. The Province of Malaga is full of surprises. Let's start with a good example: the wonder named Torcal de Antequera Natural Park.

Karst fantasy

If you have visited the Province of Malaga before but you've never been to Torcal de Antequera, what are you waiting for? Its spectacular, unique nature and geological interest make it a fascinating place. It is clear that in terms of hiking with your dog it is a very attractive option, even more so when you consider there are inviting, pet-friendly country houses nearby: Vega de Antequera Country House, La Casa del Hortelano and Los Duendes Country House (the last one is in an Antequera town named Bobadilla). Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, El Torcal and its karst landscape introduce you to a labyrinth of stone trails the likes of which you will never have seen before. Take your pet, free of problems… Of course, their documentation must be up-to-date and they must be kept on a lead. These are the rules of this natural space!

A walk along the eastern coast

How do you fancy heading to the easternmost coast? Heading towards the mountains you will come across Frigiliana, a beautiful town situated in the foothills of Sierras de Almijara, Tejeda y Alhama Natural Park, famous for its relaxed, cosmopolitan nature. In the vicinity of the old Ingenio Factory is the start of a hiking route that ends at Fuente del Esparto. This rather accessible route covers a little more than 7.5 kilometres and borders the Higuerón River. You can walk this trail in around three hours with your best friend.

Continue in the east of the province to find the Chillar River, which occupies the municipal areas of Nerja, Frigiliana and Cómpeta. This route, which runs for 8 kilometres in the riverbed, has become one of the country's most popular destinations for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The majority of the route combines hiking and bathing, meaning it is highly tempting, especially in summer. Best of all, you can visit with your pet

Explore the city of dreams

Ronda is an extremely impressive city. The striking Tajo, one of the city's most symbolic areas, is a natural gorge more than a hundred metres deep, excavated by the Guadalevín River, and is a must-see. In your exploration of Ronda, you have to stop at the bullring, which is one of the oldest in Spain and the scene of historic bullfights. You can access the arena with pets, although they may not access the Bullfighting Museum, situated beneath the bullring's seating, for security reasons.

If you're looking for accommodation that permits pets you'll find many options. Hotel Reina Victoria, in the historic centre, El Horcajo, amidst Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, and El Cortijo Las Piletas, a country house perfect for a relaxing stay in direct contact with nature, are excellent, pet-friendly options.

Legendary baths

Villa Padierna Thermas Spa, in Carratraca, is extraordinary. It is one of the accommodation establishments in the Province of Malaga that allows dogs. And it's not just any kind of establishment: it's rated five stars. What's more, this spa has an interesting history. Dating back to the 18th century, its construction was ordered by Ferdinand VII, although it has experienced renovation works, enriching it with 21st-century luxury and comfort. However, its curative waters were already in use during the Moorish period. They named Carratraca "Karr-al-krak" ("clean the damage"). If you enjoy travelling with pets, prepare for a relaxing time away here!
